At a currency exchange the rate moves dozens of times a day, and if the counter price is not updated the margin disappears. Without ID and KYC records for transactions above the reporting threshold an inspection turns serious, and counting a multi-currency till at close of day takes hours. In the system we build the market rate is pulled in automatically, a buy-sell margin is applied per currency by rule and the rate board updates instantly. Every transaction gets a receipt, ID capture becomes mandatory above the threshold, and the till is monitored live by currency.

  3. 3

The customer transaction is receipted, and ID is captured if above the threshold.

  4. 4

The manager watches each branch’s currency position live.

  5. 5

Off-the-shelf software or custom-built?

When off-the-shelf is enough

For a single-counter bureau with low volumes, ready-made sector software for currency exchange may be enough.

When custom software pays off

For multi-branch bureaux, or those that also trade jewellery, or want to apply their own margin and limit rules, a custom system reduces rate risk and the audit workload.
