Behind every pack of mince in an abattoir there is a specific animal, an ear tag number, a veterinary inspection and a carcass weight. When intake, slaughter and cutting records live in separate books, tracing a product backwards during an official inspection or a customer complaint becomes almost impossible. In the system we build, an animal is recorded at intake with its ear tag number, origin and movement document, and the same number is tied to the carcass at slaughter. Carcass and cut weights are read from the scale, cutting yield is calculated automatically, and every pack label is linked to the slaughter batch and the cold room temperature history.

Problems we see in abattoirs

  • No link between a packed product and the animal it came from
  • Carcass and cutting yield calculated by hand
  • Cold room temperatures not being recorded
  • Livestock suppliers paid late and with errors

Modules

Animal intake

Ear tag number, origin, veterinary health certificate and live weight.

Slaughter and carcass

Slaughter order, hot and cold carcass weight, grading.

Cutting

Cutting yield with boneless, bone-in and by-product outputs.

Batch labels

Barcoded labels carrying slaughter date, batch and origin.

Cold chain

Cold room and vehicle temperature sensors with threshold alarms.

Supplier payment

Settlement and receipt for the livestock owner by carcass weight and grade.

How it works day to day

  1. 1

The animal is received with its ear tag number and documents.

  2. 2

At slaughter the carcass is weighed and labelled with the same number.

  3. 3

After chilling in the cold room the carcass goes to the cutting line.

  4. 4

Cut product is weighed and packed with a batch label.

  5. 5

At dispatch the delivery note is linked to the batch and the supplier payment is calculated.

Off-the-shelf software or custom-built?

When off-the-shelf is enough

For small plants that only provide a slaughter service, a simple records and bookkeeping package may be enough.

When custom software pays off

In plants that cut, pack and ship to supermarket chains, a custom system joining traceability, yield and the cold chain lowers inspection risk and waste.

Frequently asked questions

Can it connect to the national livestock database?

Ear tag and origin details of received animals are held in the system, and transfer or easy-entry support is provided depending on what the official system allows.

Can scales be connected to the system?

Weight is read directly from line scales with a network or serial output.

Who is notified if a cold room temperature goes out of range?

When a threshold is exceeded, the responsible people receive an SMS and an app notification, and an incident record is kept.

Can tablets be used in a wet environment?

Industrial-cased tablets and large-button screens are recommended, and the interface is designed for use with gloves.
